Arsenal's title hopes were dealt a major blow as Alex Scott's second-half strike gave Bournemouth victory at Emirates Stadium. 11 Apr 2026
Defeat meant the hosts missed a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to 12 points before second-placed Manchester City's game against Chelsea on Sunday. Mikel Arteta called for supporters to arrive early for an important match in the Gunners' season and get behind the team, whose hopes of Carabao Cup and FA Cup silverware have been crushed in recent weeks. But it was Bournemouth who looked the most at ease initially, and they punished Arsenal when Junior Kroupi finished off Adrien Truffert's deflected cross from close range for an early breakthrough. The home side rallied after going behind and levelled when Viktor Gyokeres slammed in a penalty after Ryan Christie was punished for handball when trying to block a shot. There was a tense atmosphere inside the stadium and Arsenal manager Arteta tried to force the contest in his team's favour when he brought on the attacking trio of Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard and 16-year-old Max Dowman. But it was Bournemouth who produced a moment of quality to win the game when Alex Scott ran on to Evanilson's flick on the edge of the penalty area and shot past David Raya to stun the silenced home fans. It was a goal that ensured the Cherries extended their unbeaten run in the league to 12 matches, leaving Arsenal deflated. Arteta's side remain top of the table but have played two more games than Manchester City now. They must also travel to Manchester next weekend to take on Pep Guardiola's side.
Barcelona moved nine points clear of rivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga with a comfortable win over Espanyol in the Catalan derby. 11 Apr 2026
Ferran Torres rose highest to head home Lamine Yamal's corner at the back post after nine minutes to open the scoring. The former Manchester City forward then got his, and Barcelona's, second goal in the 25th minute as he latched on to a pass with the outside of the boot from Lamine Yamal and got in front of Espanyol goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic to guide a finish into the net. At the age of 18 years and 272 days, Lamine Yamal became the club's youngest player to reach 100 appearances and showed his importance once more with the two assists. Despite struggling to gain possession during the match, Espanyol replied in the 56th minute when Pol Lozano was in the right place in the box to hammer home after Barca defender Eric Garcia had made a block. Fernando Calero also sent a header wide from Ramon Terrats' corner, but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser. Barcelona rallied again for a strong finish and found the net twice in two minutes to settle the outcome as Lamine Yamal slotted into an empty net and England forward Marcus Rashford came off the bench to hook an 89th-minute volley into the bottom corner. With seven games left in La Liga and Real Madrid struggling, Hansi Flick's side are on course to retain their title. But Barca will now turn their attention to the second leg of their Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday (20:00 GMT), where they will need to come from two goals down if they are to progress. Espanyol have now failed to win in 14 consecutive La Liga matches (D5 L9) but remarkably remain 10th in the table.
Bayern Munich broke the record for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season as they thrashed St Pauli to open up a 12-point lead at the top of the table. 11 Apr 2026
Jamal Musiala gave them a ninth-minute with a diving header at the back post, before Leon Goretzka, Michael Olise, Nicolas Jackson and Raphael Guerreiro scored in the second half to secure a convincing victory. Musiala's header from a Konrad Laimer cross was Bayern's 101st league goal this season, equalling the record they set in 1971-72 for the most scored in a Bundesliga campaign. Musiala also hit the post with a curling effort midway through the first half, before a heroic Kim Min-Jae block denied St Pauli an equaliser from one of their few sights of goal. It took Vincent Kompany's side eight minutes after the restart to break the Bundesliga goals mark when Goretzka volleyed in the 102nd after a Joshua Kimmich free-kick was flicked on to the far post. Just 75 seconds later France winger Olise found the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area, before Jackson side-footed past St Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj from close range. Guerreiro added a deserved fifth in the 89th minute after picking the pocket of a defender and slotting home. Bayern took full advantage of Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen earlier on Saturday, and now hold a commanding lead over their closest rivals with just five games left to play. Their goal difference now stands at 78, with Kompany's side having scored at least twice in 27 of their 29 league matches. Musiala was named player of the match on just his third league start of an injury-hit campaign as he looks to earn a place in Germany's World Cup squad. Such was the ruthlessness of Bayern's second-half attacking play, England captain Harry Kane was able to rest on the bench before the second leg of his side's Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Wednesday, with the Germans 2-1 ahead.
Martim Fernandes' freak own goal gifted Nottingham Forest a glorious chance to reach a first European semi-final in over 40 years. 10 Apr 2026
The Porto defender accidentally passed it into his own net from 45 yards with goalkeeper Diogo Gomes stranded, to cancel out William Gomes' early opener. It gave Forest a way back in Portugal just as the hosts threatened to quickly take complete control of the Europa League quarter-final first leg. "It's part of the match, it's part of the game. There was some pressure and some failure in their communication so we ended up scoring," said Forest boss Vitor Pereira. Now, victory at the City Ground - where they have already beaten Porto this season - next Thursday would send Forest into their first European semi-final since 1984. Aston Villa could be waiting for an all-English clash after their 3-1 win in Bologna put them in pole position to progress. Stefan Ortega had already denied Terem Moffi and Borja Sainz before Porto went ahead, William Gomes finishing at the far post, and he saved again from Moffi in first-half injury time. Igor Jesus had a goal disallowed after the break, having collided with the goalkeeper, while Ortega's fine stop denied William Gomes a second. It meant Forest boss Vitor Pereira, who won two titles with Porto, returned to Estadio do Dragao to claim a vital result after making nine changes - including starting Chris Wood, as the striker made his return after six months out. Forest remain in a Premier League relegation battle, sitting three points above the drop zone, with Pereira mindful of Sunday's top-flight visit of Villa. "We changed some players, why? In two and a half days we are playing against Aston Villa and I have to think about it," he said. "If we were certain in the Premier League we would be talking about another match, but I'm pleased with the result, the players gave it their best, they kept it open and we will see what we can do next week. "We are playing to stay in the Premier League and that has to be taken very seriously. I have to be responsible and we have to add points as quickly as possible to escape the last matches and remain in the Premier League."
Aston Villa will take a 3-1 advantage into the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie against Bologna following a hard-fought victory in Italy. 10 Apr 2026
After surviving a string of Bologna attacks, Villa led through a header from Ezri Konsa, which came against the run of play in the dying seconds of the first half, before Ollie Watkins doubled their advantage six minutes into the second. Bologna's English attacker Jonathan Rowe struck with a brilliant curling effort past Emiliano Martinez in the 90th minute before Watkins scored from a corner in injury time to restore their two-goal advantage before the return fixture. But Unai Emery's side were handed two huge reprieves in the first half as they struggled to find a foothold at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara. Rowe was a lively presence on the left wing for the home side and fed Santiago Castro, who saw his effort take a deflection off Konsa on its way into the goal - despite an attempt from Matty Cash to clear it off the line. The Serie A side's 28th-minute opener, however, did not stand, disallowed for a tight offside on Castro after a video assistant referee (VAR) review. Two minute's later, Scotland's Lewis Ferguson's shot hit the crossbar after Rowe's cross. But the Premier League side struck in the 44th minute from a rare corner kick as defender Konsa headed in at the far post with Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia failing to collect Youri Tielemans' delivery after coming off the line. Watkins then pounced on a mistake by Torbjorn Heggem and finished through the legs of Ravaglia to pull his side further ahead in the 51st minute. Rowe reduced the deficit in the closing stages to give Bologna hope, which was dashed immediately by Watkins' second in the 95th minute as the 1982 European champions took a big step towards a place in the semi-finals.
